Day 7- Camino Cred 2.0

Today was a beautiful day on the Camino. The weather cooperated, no mud slogs and both nature and human elements shined. In my travels along the Camino Del Norte, I have passed through a number of fairly big and busy cities. I felt a bit out of place as a pilgrim while the locals got their kids to school and went to work. Most people looked right past me despite my vagabond attire. I was surprised today, 7 locals, including one on a bike said “Buen Camino” with smiles on their faces. The first time it happened I was stunned. Then a second and third time… Oh the paparazzi! I felt like a movie star.

In last year’s blog I had the first Camino Cred story with Frank from South Carolina- check out Day 17 of last year’s blog. Today, as I was on my last few miles and I met up with some Aussies. They asked me where I was from. I said the States, Boston. They asked “Are you Pete?” I said indeed I am. They said a fellow Aussie, Joanna, told them she had met up with a guy from Boston named Pete who was a decent guy. Joanna and I met on the Camino a few days ago but her pace was too fast for me. She was with the group which included folks from Maine and Ohio. It was nice to connect with some folks on the journey.

The streets of Bilbao are full of artwork and creative architecture. This is a foot bridge I crossed following the Camino

I could not pass up the opportunity to ride an elevator on the Camino

I thought this was a sign for a bathroom. Turns out it was for a picnic area.

Bike art- Yeah!

Here’s the wonderful folks who befriended me with the help of Joanna

Joanna’s selfie with the rest of us. A good day on the Camino
