Day 45- Peace

Today on the Camino I felt a sense of peace- peace with myself. It’s an incredible feeling to be at peace with oneself and for me not easily obtained. Sitting in my Parador room trying to take in all I’ve seen, said, written, thought, heard and experienced in this 45 day Pilgrimage is far too weighty a task. It will take time for me to process everything. What I can say is this journey brought me closer to God. I’m not sure this makes any sense but the more I focus on myself, the more I feel God’s presence in me. It will be very interesting to see how long the Camino Consciousness stays with me or will it quickly fade away. Circling back- that’s up to me. I had a Billy Preston song in my head today as I walked that really captured part of this journey-

All things are God given and they have all been blessed. That’s the way God planned it. That’s the way God wants it to be. Thanks Billy

I will sit back at a nice restaurant to celebrate (by myself of course) making it all the way from Sevilla to Santiago de Compostela. I can’t thank you guys enough for your inspiration, participation, support and friendship. I relied heavily on all you had to offer. A special thanks to Carla. We faced timed every single day. Her support and encouragement made this possible. It’s the longest time we’ve been physically apart in our 37 years of marriage. And to my Dad, we emailed every day and he supplied me with a prayer book and a Saint Christopher medal. We had rich conversations about God, faith and spirituality. We also wrote of my Mom and great memories of how supportive she was and how she’s looking down on both my Dad and me.

To my son Jack who, every day, without fail made sure my blog posted each day. Thanks Jack

Well, I completed the Via de la Plata Camino, but my Pilgrimage continues. Last song reference- Mark Erelli wrote a beautiful song- Its called the Pilgrim’s Highway (he got the name from Rt. 3 to the Cape, which is called the Pilgrim’s Highway) about how we all are just passing through this life. There’s got to be something more.

Note the 3 spires of the Cathedral in the distance

Pretty nice organ pipes. They sounded good too.
