Day 32- Do You Believe
Today was glorious. Big sun, no clouds, no wind, warm temperatures and a very short walk. I walked with Dominique, my friend from Switzerland. Last night we stayed in the same place, Casa Julia, and we put away a couple of bottles of red figuring we earned them after such a challenging day. The day is also special for me as I booked this place because of its background, Albergue Rehoboth. In 2007, Craig and Dorothea, settled in this little spot right on the Camino after decades of missionary work in remote and challenging places around the globe. I wanted to hear their story and to see how they converted a dilapidated crumbling structure into a place to give aid and comfort to Pilgrims. As today’s walk only took a couple of hours I had plenty of time to take in my surroundings and to talk to Craig about faith, spirituality and in what ways they are present on the Camino. It was rich conversation but not “preachy”. After Dominique and I were here for a while, Pilgrims began coming to Albergue Rehoboth for a quick stop of coffee, soda or tea- make your own. In the course of less than an hour no less than 12 Pilgrims arrived and I recognized them all- strange feeling. The town here is like many I have passed through. Small, no services and a locked church. I asked Craig how many people live in Villa de Farfon. He said 3, Craig, his wife and an old man up the road. He and his wife are dedicating their lives to caring for Pilgrims. Craig made me lunch and he also made dinner for me and 2 other Pilgrims- 2 young girls from Slovokia. We talked a lot about Zdeno Chara. Craig and Dorothea embody the Camino spirit of service to others. Sound familiar? These were people I just had to meet. I’m glad I did.
Last night’s lodging. For dinner- microwave something, potato chips and wine. For dessert- wine
Another Catholic rest stop.
