Day 18- God Will Provide
After a good night’s sleep which Whoop rated as 100% (if you don’t know about Whoop and you want to, Google it, my son Jack works there) I faced a walk of only 7 miles and I had a nice room reserved at the end in Carcaboso. It was a sunny, cool day with a nice breeze and the route was mostly flat on paved roads so I was cruising. It looked to be an easy day until I tried to check in around 11:30. The hotel/restaurant did not have a record of my reservation and everything else in town was booked. The woman trying to help me spoke no English so it was a one way conversation as I spoke in Spanish but I could not understand her answers. The best I could figure out was she could get me a room at a hotel about 10 miles away but I had to wait 3 hours for an Italian gentleman to arrive at 3:00. I could not understand how I would get to the hotel or how I would get back to the Camino the next morning. At 3:00 the Italian showed up and of course spoke no English. Finally the woman found a local who spoke English. This is what she set up for me. The Italian is also a Peregrino who was staying at the same hotel out of town and he would drive us there in HER car and he would drive us back to her hotel/restaurant in Carcaboso in the morning where I could resume my Pilgrimage, after I had to have breakfast in the woman’s restaurant. Fine by me. When I got the bad news, I spoke to the Lord and said I know he will provide for me and get me through this. With the crazy plan detailed above, he did. However, Whoop told me my faith was tested. In addition to monitoring sleep Whoop also monitors stress. My highest level of stress for the entire day ran from 11:31 until 11:55. I guess it took a few minutes to crank up my faith. It’s the Camino.
Cool way out of town

A locked church I passed along the way. When I find a locked church, I put my hands on it and pray, always thinking of all the faithful over the centuries who have come to this house of worship.
