Day 22 Mas Meseta
Our second to last day on the Meseta. Today’s walk followed a roadway the whole way. We passed through only one town where we had coffee and some pastries. It’s Sunday there’s no evening mass in the town we are staying in today. We are missing mass on the Camino- still trying to figure that one out.
Camino food- lots of bread, olives, cheese and cured ham. Coffee is hit or miss. Cheeseburgers and pizza everywhere. Must admit- the burgers have been pretty good. Every Hostel restaurant on the Camino has a “Pilgrim Menu” which is pretty much the same. Of course the bigger towns have many different options but they typically don’t open for dinner until 8 or 8:30- too late for these 2 Pilgrims. When we have the chance we try local dishes including blood sausage, white bean stew, garlic soup, rabbit, pig ears, pig cheeks, pig knuckles, pig hooves, and of course paella.
Going strong with the Irishmen
Setting today’s pace
Spain does a great job with the Camino. Note the planted trees along the Way to create shade.
What’s left of an ancient wall that surrounded the city, dating back a thousand years. This is where the Pilgrims would enter the city
