Day 30 Prayers and Vineyards

Today Carla and I climbed out of Ponferrada and into a new wine region Bierzo. We were met by vineyards and those endearing tiny chapels that populate the Camino. We got away from the massive opulent cathedrals. Both are great and inspiring for sure, but like my uncle would think, there’s something truly sacred in the modest. Some were open and some were closed. I prayed at every opportunity. I am not a very good prayer but today it seemed to come to me a bit more freely. At times I’m not sure whether I am praying or begging. Today seemed all about prayer and for that I am grateful. The vineyards were beautiful and a different symbol of life than the crops we passed in days past. I know I’ve mentioned this before but it bears repeating. The fertile land Carla and I are walking through is truly life giving. It’s a privilege to walk through this source of nourishment and life. The chapels that populate this area present a simple but powerful presence.

Old and new. Constant contrast on the Camino

We walked by many cherry trees. A local woman had a bucket of cherries and offered some to us. Carla picked just one from her bucket and in response the lady gave me a fist full. They were delicious and yes I shared them with Carla.
